PROMPT is a multipurpose gallery and project space at the entrance of the University's Pop-Up Reunion Village development. The gallery program offers visitors an insight into the trans-disciplinary applications of study and research across ANU, invites new perspectives on art as a means of communication, and encourages us to consider the identity of the University and its community.
- To explore the identity of the University by presenting a wide cross-section of academic research, exploration and experimentation generated with the ANU community.
- To engage visitors to the Pop-Up Village with ambitious projects that challenge the boundaries of a conventional gallery and inspire new ways of seeing, thinking and feeling.
- To encourage collaboration and cross pollination of ideas and inspiration across a diverse selection of practices and fields of study.
- To recognise and celebrate the vibrant spectrum of social and cultural diversity at the University.
PROMPT is a 4m by 5m gallery space at the entrance to the ANU Pop-Up Reunion Village. The space has large windows along two of the four walls, and has approximately 11m of linear wall space with hanging rails for displaying wall-based work. There is ceiling-mounted adjustable track lighting operating on a timer with excellent visibility through the windows, heating/cooling, Ethernet ports and multiple power outlets. Please contact us for more information on the specifications and dimensions of the space.
To align with the academic calendar of the university, exhibitions times and durations within PROMPT are flexible and varied. When applying, please indicate the preferred dates and duration of your project in the space (standard 4 weeks, minimum 1 week, maximum 8 weeks). PROMPT will likely be closed for visitors during mid-year and Christmas breaks when traffic to the pop-up is slow – during these times, we welcome creative proposals for 1-2 month long installations in the space that can be viewed from outside through the windows.
PROMPT is a temporary space that will be open for 18 months from July 2017 through to the end of 2018. PROMPT's standard opening hours are 9am–5pm during term time, with flexibility around events at the Pop-Up and within the University's academic calendar.

How to apply
PROMPT is currently accepting proposals on an ongoing basis from June 2017 to December 2018, however we suggest applicants apply as early as possible to avoid missing out on a place in the busy program. To apply, please go through the information on this page and then fill out the submission form.
Who can apply
Current students and staff at ANU are encouraged to put forward proposals that align with the gallery objectives (outlined above) for exhibitions and installations in the gallery space from July 2017 to December 2018, and will not be charged a hire fee if selected for the exhibition program. Alumni of the ANU and non-ANU affiliated parties may also apply with proposals that align with the gallery objectives, but if selected, a weekly hire fee will be charged unless otherwise agreed upon with the Gallery Manager.
Current students and staff at ANU interested in exhibiting at PROMPT can apply for grants from the gallery from $200 to $800 per project to assist in the presentation of their work. In addition to their project proposal, grant applicants are required to submit a detailed budget outlining how the funds would be used to support their idea. Funding will be allocated to selected proposals that strongly uphold the objectives of the gallery, and priority given to the creation of new work that is unlikely to be available for sale (e.g. large scale installations, A/V or interactive work, hire of equipment not available within the ANU). A total funding pool of $4,000 is available to support projects during the 18-month gallery program.
Events / Venue Hire
The Gallery is available for internal (ANU) and external (commercial) exclusive hire on an hourly or daily basis, subject to availability and the suitability or impact of potential bookings within the exhibition program. Contact the Gallery Manager for further information on rates and availability.
There is no requirement for exhibition openings at PROMPT. If you would like to arrange your own opening/launch/other event for your exhibition, please ensure you discuss the timing and logistics of this event with the Gallery Manager before confirming your exhibition.
